Work out the Stamp Duty Land Tax on a home in England.
What is stamp duty?
Stamp Duty Land Tax is paid when you buy a home in England over a certain price. Each slice of the price is taxed at its own rate, like income tax.
It's due within 14 days of completion. Your solicitor usually files the return and pays it for you.
First-time buyers
If you've never owned a home and you're buying one to live in, you pay nothing up to £300,000 and 5% on the part from £300,001 to £500,000. Over £500,000, the standard rates apply.
